Toyota Gazoo Racing have made another record in the 2021 season of FIA World Endurance Championship after maintaining a 100% victory sealing it with a title victory at the just concluded 8 hours of Bahrain II. The race was an exciting one as both Toyota GR010 hybrid pushed hard and car # 8 taking the victory.
At start of the race, car #36 Alpine A480 took an early victory during the first turn, leaving both Toyota car #7 and car #8 behind and later finishing third, six laps behind the two Toyota GR010 hybrid hypercar because of gear selector problem. Toyota Car #8: Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley finished first place 7.35 seconds after overtaking Toyota car #7: Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez in the 2nd hour of the 8 hours race after car #8 was waved to get in front of car #7 because it was faster.
Toyota Gazoo Racing is the first ever team to win the Hypercar World Endurance Championship and Alpine Elf Mutmut finished second in the hypercar World Endurance Championship.
During the race, there was a collision between car #33 Ben Keating and car #98 Paul Dallas Lana, car # Aston Martin Vantage AMR front left tire spun out and car #98 Aston Martin Vantage AMR back right tire spun out in the LMGTE AM category.
In LMP2 category, Team WRT Robin Frijns, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi finished first in car #31 Oreca 07 Gibson, with their third consecutive win in the LMP2 category. Roberto Gonzalez, aAnthonio Felix de Costa and Anthony Davidson finished second place in Oreca 07 Gibson car #38, and Sean Galael, Stoffel Vandoorne and Tom Blomquist finished third in the LMP2 category.
In LMGTE PRO category, car #51: Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado finished first place in the Ferrari 488 GTE EVO; Kevin Estre, Neel Jani and Michael Chrsitensen in car #92 Porsche 911 RSR – 19 finished second ; and Daniel Serra, Miguel Molina finished third place in car #52 Ferrari 488 GTE EVO.
In LMGTE category, car #83 Ferrari 488 GTE EVO François Perrodo, Nicklas Nielsen and Alessio Rivera finished first position; car #77 Porsche 911 RSR – 19 driven by Christain Ried, Jaxon Evans, Matt Campbell second position; and Porsche 911 RSR – 19 car #52 driven by Egidio Perfetti, Matteo Cairoli and Riccardo Pera.
Kazuki Nakajima finished first place in Toyota car #8 as the race marked the end of his career, “I am very happy to finish my WEC career like this and I am very lucky to have such great team-mates. As a team we fight very hard until the end and we never give up. In the final laps it was difficult to keep my emotions under control and focus on driving. But I managed to get to the chequered flag and it was a fantastic result; we won the race, #7 won the championship and Toyota Gazoo Racing won the teams’ title. I am really happy and touched by the reaction. Big, big thanks to all my team-mates, everyone in Toyota Gazoo Racing and all those who supported me over the last years.” Kazuki Nakajima had been won the 2018 and 2019 FIA World Endurance Championship with Fernando Alonso.
